Lot Description

A good mid 19th century Chinese export black lacquer games box, the canted oblong push on cover gilt decorated with figures and pavilions, within foliate borders, enclosing a fine and extensive interior of seven lidded compartments (three rectangular, four irregular pentagonal corner trays) each with gilt decorated cover, together with twelve card trays (five with 'face card' decoration of kings, queens and knaves or jacks plus playing card suits, one inscribed 'GAME' in gilt script, and six others), on three (of four) paw feet, 15" x 12" x 5.25" high. (38cm x 30cm x 13cm).

Some slight rubbing/dulling to lid decoration when compared to pristine interior. One minor loss to lid, another to body and one foot missing. Internal contents in excellent condition except lacquer cracking to one tray, but overall still in a good box.
