Lot 137

Lot Description

A 1920's silver presentation trowel, decorated with bright cut engraved flowers and scrolling foliage and with a tapering and ebonised wooden handle, hallmarked Vaughton & Sons, Birmingham 1925.  Together with a modern silver trowel or slice, also with wooden handle, hallmarked Birmingham 1997.  Respective lengths measure 10 3/4 inches (27.3 cm) and 10 1/2 inches (26.6 cm). (2).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both pieces display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing.  Slightly heavier wear around edges and to tips but both are still fairly sharp.  Also some heavier scratches, marks and nicks visible to both.  Some minor surface dints.  On the 1920's trowel, there is some loss of detail and definition to some of the engraved decoration.  Also remnants of a sticker mark are visible.  The metal tip of the wood handle is very squashed.  The hallmarks to both are clear and legible.
