Lot Description

A George IV silver tea caddy of rectangular bombé form, embossed with floral festoons, one surround a crested cartouche, the detachable cover similarly decorated and with gadrooned rim, the body raised on shell mounted bracket feet. Hallmarked to the base with the maker's mark only of JA tentatively attributed to Joseph Angell I, and to the cover with the lion passant and date letter for 1827 (assumed London).  Height measuring 5 1/2 inches (14 cm), weight 11.3 ozt (351 grams).

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. There is some rubbing of the embossed work with a little loss of definition, a number of solder repairs also visible and a couple of tiny holes worn through to the high embossing on the cover. Crest worn. Slight split in rim, visible to the interior. As mentioned in the description only part hallmarks visible, the maker's mark positioned on the underside of the base and presents a little distorted.
