Lot Description
An early twentieth century silver and tortoiseshell desk stand, of square form with applied silver edge leading to four corner bracket feet, with pen rest and square aperture to the centre holding a glass ink bottle with silver hinged lid having a presentation engraving. Silver hallmarked Walker & Hall, Birmingham 1920. Stand measures 4 inches (10.2 cm) square.

Condition Report
The item displays general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use and also some tarnishing to the metal mounts. The hinged lid to the ink bottle displays several dints and the pin to the hinges is sticking out on one side. The silver edge mount is lifting in some areas. Slight knocks to the feet and it wobbles a little when standing. Minor edge chips to glass. The maker's mark partly worn but still legible, other hallmarks are clear and legible. The engraving on the bottle lid reads 'Bishops Stortford Gymkhana, 1932'. Lion passant and date to interior of lid are worn but still just legible.
