Lot 264

Lot Description

A set of three Old Sheffield plate meat dome covers comprising one large and a smaller pair, each having an oval plain body with a deep gadroon band, a cast foliate handle, and twin engraved family crest with the motto 'Moveo et Propitior'.  Maximum lengths measure 13 7/8 inches (35.3 cm) and 21 3/8 inches (54.3 cm).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

All the covers display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with their age and use.  Heavier tarnishing visible to some areas and they would all benefit from a clean and polish.  General dints and bumps and some larger dints to one of the smaller covers.  Some small areas where the plating is worn and the copper is showing.  Contact marks visible around the holes for the handles.  The crests are likely engraved on silver as an 'inlet' patch is visible around each one.
