Lot 380

Lot Description

A George IV pair of silver grape scissors, of plain form, hallmarked William Chawner II, London 1826. Together with a paper knife with filled silver pistol-grip handle, a turn of the century silver tea infuser of spherical form with star and circle piercing, hallmarked Chester 1902, maker's mark partially obscured, and a 1930's silver match stick case with engine turned detail and vacant rectangular cartouche, hallmarked Mappin & Webb, Birmingham 1937. Combined weighable silver 4.09 ozt (127.3 grams). (4).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The grape scissors are stiff. Screw believed base metal, later replacement. File mark to one arm, associated discolouration. Paper knife believed modern replacement blade, possibly converted from butter knife. Minor nicks to blade. Hallmarks worn to handle, hallmarked Isaac Ellis & Sons, Sheffield 1912. The infuser is heavily tarnished and would benefit from a clean and polish.  Also some dints and bumps, especially to the flange of the lid.  The hallmarks are clear and legible; however the maker's mark is partly obscured.  The hinges on the match case are in working order, however they feel a little loose and so does the clasp.  The hallmarks are clear and legible.
