Lot Description

A late seventeenth century silver Trefid spoon. Hallmarked Thomas Allen, London, date letter illegible. Length measuring 7 1/4 inches (18.5 cm), weight 1.3 ozt (43 grams).

In poor overall condition. A segment which holds the stem has cracked and subsequently been solder repaired. Trefid terminal has broken off. Bowl dented, worn down and thin to striking edge. Rat-tail definition worn. The lot also displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The hallmarks consist of a very worn lion's head, part lion passant and the maker's mark clear and legible, maker active circa 1678 - 1692.
