Lot 401

Lot Description

A set of six George III silver table forks, each with engraved family crest to the reverse of each terminal depicting a forearm holding aloft a fish, hallmarked Solomon Hougham, London 1805.  Together with a set of six late Victorian Fiddle pattern table forks, hallmarked Josiah Williams & Co (George Maudsley Jackson), London 1896.  Combined weight 27.41 ozt (852.8 grams). (12).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

All the forks display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  The set of Georgian forks display heavier wear and heavier tarnishing throughout.  Some of the tines are in poor condition and are very uneven in length, having been worn down.  They are also a little bent.  Elastic band marks to some of the stems.  Slight loss of surface detail to crests.  The overall condition of the Victorian forks appears fairly good and the tines have faired well.  Some elastic band marks to stems.  Some rubbing but the hallmarks are all still legible.  The maker's mark is missing from one of the Georgian forks.
