Lot Description

An Edwardian combination silver cigarette case and hip flask of plain oblong form, the hinged case front opening to reveal a cigarette case with silver-gilt interior, further detachable cover to the domed lid of the flask. Hallmarked Henry Matthews, Birmingham 1903. Height measuring 5 1/4 inches (13 cm), weight 7.3 ozt
(228 grams).

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Centre of the cigarette case cover is thin and looks to have had an engraving removed. The hinged cover to the cigarette case looks to have a sprung hinge which is now weak and easily falls open. Numerous minor dints and bumps. File marks to the case interior. Silver-gilding stained. Hallmarks to the interior are clear and legible, part hallmarks to the underside are worn.
