A Victorian horse hoof box, the silver plated hinged mount opening to a gilt interior, the lid engraved 'TOUCHSTONE Shire ''Camel'' Dam ''Banter'' Bred by the Marquis of Westminster Foaled 1831. Died 1861', the engraving further lists winning races to include the Ascot Cup. Height measuring 2 1/2 inches (6.5 cm).
Touchstone (1831-1861) was a British thoroughbred racehorse and bred by the Marquis of Westminster, Robert Grosvenor. Significant wins include the Doncaster Gold Cup 1835, 1836 and the Ascot Gold Cup 1836, 1837.

Condition Report
The lot displays some obvious wear and tear along with general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing. The plating is significantly worn, in comparison the interior of the box appear in good overall condition. The hoof has obvious flaking and deterioration to the surface. along with chips and losses to the edge and further significant losses and chips to the reverse of the hoof where it meets the plated mount. Mount loose and easily moveable. Horse shoe displays rust.
