Lot Description
An early nineteenth century French snuff box, the slim oblong form with floral niello decoration, the hinged lid with further niello portrait panel of a seated lady in three quarter profile and vermicular surround. French, Paris, 800 standard assay marks circa 1819-1838. Length measuring 3 1/2 inches (9 cm), weight 2.9 ozt (90.7 grams).

Condition Report
The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.
Chips and wear to the niello-work, particularly visible to the edges and corners along with some dents. Interior appears gilded with some significant wear and scratches towards the hinge on the base and edges of the lid. A few more noticeable scratches through the face of the portrait. French assay marks comprising Fineness mark, Moyenne Paris guarantee mark, maker's mark (distorted) and a further illegible circular mark, all visible to the edge of the lid only.
