Lot Description

A Victorian silver and enamel vesta case by Sampson Mordan & Co, the oblong form enamelled to the front with a pack of eight foxhounds and monogram engraved to the reverse. Hallmarked Sampson Mordan & Co , London 1887. Maximum length measuring 5.7 cm and width 3.2 cm, weight 34 grams.

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Chip and loss to the enamel on the bottom right hand corner. The pivot hinge has become a little loose, although the lid holds firmly closed. Minor shallow dints and one shallow dent to the reverse. Silver-gilt interior discoloured. The hallmarks are clear and legible. maker's mark to the main body noticeably worn.
