Lot Description

A Victorian silver tea kettle and stand, the kettle of tapering oval form, decorated with a band of formalised leaf motifs around the inset rim and arabesque borders to the main body enclosing a central plain band, further foliate and floral decoration to the removable lid, upright handle and tapering spout, the oval stand with four claw and ball feet leading to scrolled supports and a central removable burner. Hallmarked Robert Harper, London 1877. Maximum height including stand and handle measures 14 1/2 inches (37 cm), gross weight 96.92 ozt (3014.7 grams).

The kettle appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  Quite heavy tarnishing is visible to some areas and it would benefit from a clean and polish.  Some deeper scratches and nicks are visible, also some minor dints/bumps.  The grip section of the handle is a little loose at the fixings around the ivory insulators.  One of the pins is sticking out and small gaps are visible at the joins.  There are seam splits at the top of the handle and a larger split on one side.  There is a knock to the flange of the lid.  The stand wobbles a little.  The main pin is missing.  The hallmarks appear a little rubbed in places but are all legible.  Corresponding hallmarks to removable sections.
