Lot Description

A mid Victorian 12ct gold ruby and split pearl cluster memorial ring. The square-shape ruby, within a split pearl cluster, to the ruby accent sides and scrolling engraved band. Hallmarks for Birmingham, 1858. Weight 1.7gms.

Overall condition good to fair. Surface scratches and small patches of discolouration in keeping with general wear and age.  Glazed panel to reverse, minor discolouration. Some evidence of alteration and repair. The rubies are well matched with a patchy slightly purplish red, showing small dark inclusions under magnification. The rubies show nibbles to the girdle, one end stone has a small chip. The possibly replacement split pearls are fairly well matched with a white body colour showing pink and green overtones, with varied lustre from muted to good. Two split pearls show small chips to the edge. Ring size N.
