Lot 117

Lot Description

A Victorian pair of silver candlesticks in eighteenth century style, each with slender baluster stem raised above a stepped and shaped square base with shell and foliate detail to the corners, conforming decoration to the shoulder knop and removable nozzle, loaded. Hallmarked Walker Knowles & Co., Sheffield 1852. Maximum height including nozzle measures 9 inches (23 cm).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both candlesticks display general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with their age and use. Quite heavy tarnishing is visible and both would benefit from a clean and polish. Minor dints/nicks, also some areas of pitting, especially around the base of each stem. Nozzles appear to be a good fit, both with matching full hallmarks. All hallmarks are clear and legible.
