Lot 124

Lot Description

Two pairs of Victorian silver open salts, the first of cauldron shape with beaded rim above floral embossing and monogrammed cartouche and standing on three paw feet, hallmarked Robert Harper, London 1870, and the second pair of plain oval form with reeded rims, engraved crest and raised above four hoof feet, hallmarked Dobson & Sons (Thomas William Dobson & Henry Holmes Dobson II), London 1880. Combined weight 8.59 ozt (267.3 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both pairs display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with their age and use. Some minor dints and bumps, also some heavier scratches and nicks are visible, especially to the oval pair. These two salts also display heavier tarnishing and wobble a little when in the standing position. Loss of detail to engraved crests. Some flattening and loss of definition to the decoration on the circular pair. Some of the hallmarks and maker's marks appear rubbed and partly distorted but all are still legible.
