Lot 2

Lot Description

A George III silver swing handle sugar basket with blue glass liner, of pedestal outline with beaded borders enclosing simple circle and horizontal piercing to the main body and foot, with conforming beadwork to the handle. Hallmarked London 1776, maker's mark obscured.  Height measures 4 inches (10.2 cm), silver weight 3.23 ozt (100.6 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The basket displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  A couple of breaks in the pierced decoration and some small solder repairs are visible.  The hinges on the swing handle are quite loose so that the handle does not stay upright.  The fixings would need to be tightened. Some minor nibbles to the rim of the glass liner.  The maker's mark is partly worn and difficult to read, the second letter is possibly 'I'.  The other hallmarks are rubbed but still legible.
