A turn of the century crocodile skin gladstone style gentleman's travelling vanity bag, embossed with the initials 'M.I.B' and opening to reveal a compartmentalised interior with various accessories to include six silver mounted vanity bottles, glove stretchers and a silver handled manicure set, each with Art Nouveau style embossing and hallmarked Charles Henry Dumenil, London 1902 - 1904, a leather bound inkwell, lighter and sewing kit and two silver mounted hip flasks, hallmarked Mappin & Webb Ltd, 1898 and Birmingham 1931. Condition Report
The lot appears in fair to good overall condition, displaying general wear including surface scratches and marks, in keeping with the age and use. Heavier wear and rubbing around the edges of the case and the handle and luggage label are quite worn. Small sections of stitching are missing but in good condition overall. Interior and contents in fair condition, some discolouration to green lining and heavier wear to leather manicure case with some tears. Tarnishing and dints and bumps to some of the silver and silver mounts. The hallmarks are mainly clear and legible. Rust to some of manicure tools and the hinge on the glove stretchers is broken. The case is marked 'Made by H.Greaves' and 'New St Birmingham'. Housed in an outer material case, which is faded and torn. ! The overall length is approx. 16 inches (40.5 cm) and the height excluding handle is 10 1/2 inches (26.5 cm).
