Lot 376

Lot Description

An early nineteenth century French silver coffee pot, with gadroon border detail and waisted neck above an ovoid form body, applied foliate motifs and mask terminal to the base of the wood handle and the whole raised above three curved legs leading to paw feet, the hinged cover with ovoid finial. French hallmarks (circa 1819-1838) struck to the neck, the Paris mark for .950 fineness and the Paris Guarantee mark, with repeated marks to the lid and a possible maker's mark to the underside of the main body. Maximum height measures 10 inches (25.5 cm), gross weight 17.65 ozt (549 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The coffee pot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Several dints and bumps and heavier scratches and marks to some areas. Possible repairs to handle joins as glue is visible.  Also a repair to the screw fixing of the finial, visible to the interior of the lid. Hinged lid in working order, although a little loose and a slight overhang. The open end of the spout is a little misshapen with a couple of splits starting to appear. Some rubbing but the French hallmarks are still legible. The maker's mark to the underside is partly distorted and difficult to read.
