Lot Description
An early twentieth century three piece bachelor tea service comprising teapot, sugar basin and cream jug, each of plain globular outline and standing on three splayed and stylised paw feet, the teapot with a tapering, straight sided spout and ebonised handle and finial to the hinged lid, the 'cauldron' sugar bowl having a wirework swing handle with central loop. Hallmarked Mappin & Webb Ltd., Sheffield 1908, date letter to the teapot rubbed but assumed to be same date, also with impressed maker's name. Maximum teapot length measures 8 1/4 inches (21 cm), gross weight 18.56 ozt (577.3 grams).

Condition Report
In fair to good overall condition, all three pieces displaying general wear including surface scratches, marks and some tarnishing, all commensurate with the age and use. Some deeper scratches and nicks visible to some areas, also some slight surface dints. Impressions from some of the feet are visible. Hinged lid to teapot appears in good working order. Some slight splits in wood mounts. The wooden section of the teapot handle is a little loose. The hallmarks appear rubbed with some distortion but are mainly still legible. However, the date letter to teapot is illegible.
