Lot Description

A 1930's silver three piece tea service comprising a tea kettle with stand and burner, a twin-handled sugar basin and a cream jug, each piece of bulbous form and ornately chased throughout with floral, foliate and scroll motifs surrounding twin opposed vacant cartouche, the kettle with fruitwood handle and a domed and hinged cover having a figurative finial depicting a seated oriental man, the stand with conforming decoration and raised on three shell feet. Hallmarked C S Harris & Sons Ltd., London 1931. Maximum height of kettle measures 10 1/2 inches (26.5 cm), gross combined weight 43.8 ozt (1362.3 grams).

The design and decoration of this tea service is similar to that of the teapot in the preceding lot.

In good overall condition, all three pieces displaying general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use. Heavier tarnishing to some areas and they would all benefit from a polish. Some slight dints/bumps. Chased decoration appears good. Hinged lid to kettle appears in working order, however the hinge pin is loose and falls out easily. The fruitwood handle to kettle appears a little faded and a couple of the fixing pins on the silver mounts are missing, so that the handle section is a little loose. The hallmarks are clear and legible, slight distortion to some of the maker's marks. Corresponding hallmarks to separate parts of the tea kettle.
