A good George III figured walnut chest of drawers with brushing slide, circa 1730-40, of small proportions, the quarter veneered moulded rectangular top with crossbanded border, over baize-lined brushing slide and four oak-lined graduated crossbanded long drawers, each with pierced backplate bale handles and escutcheon on bracket feet, 31.5" x 19" x 31.5" high, (80cm x 48cm x 80cm). Typical wear to top commensurate with age and use, superficial dark scratches, old worm scarring and cracking to crossbanding. Cracks to front of brushing slide, plus similar cracks to drawer edges. Two locks missing. Slides two-coloured (possibly re-veneered). Typical wear to top commensurate with age and use, superficial dark scratches, old worm scarring and cracking to crossbanding. Slides two-coloured (possibly re-veneered). **Removal of third drawer reveals that chest has been cut in half. 'Figuring' to sides is simulated painted grain, backboards are lined with paper and are old replacements, apron/bracket feet are also old (probably 18th century) but are likely to be associated.** Please note: Updated condition report since original posting, 12/09/14 .
