Lot 254
Lot Description
SEIKO - a gentleman's wrist watch. Reference 6105-8119, serial 450081. Signed automatic calibre 6105B. Black dial with luminous baton hour markers, date aperture to three. Calibrated bezel, stainless steel case fitted to an unsigned black nylon strap with stainless steel pin buckle. 43mm.
Popular with US soldiers in the Vietnam War for its ability to withstand shocks and moisture better than the army watches, the 6105 8119 was never an official issue watch but was readily available at the local PXs. Always a well-respected diver’s watch, it achieved screen immortality on the wrist of Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) in Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Apocalype Now’.
