Convict Love Token 1826, an erased Penny flan on which is stipple engraved (obverse) “Dear Mary think on me for I am many a mile from thee”, heart above, sprigs, and on the reverse “William Evans March 25 1826”, sprigs each side, heart below. Rare and interesting.
There is a record of one William Evans being transported on the Earl St Vincent leaving England on 20th April 1826 bound for Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania). He had been convicted at Hereford Assizes.
