Lot 358

Lot Description

An Edwardian silver capstan inkwell of domed circular form with hammered decoration throughout, the hinged lid with pen recess and opening to reveal a glass insert, weighted base. Hallmarked William Hutton & Sons Ltd., Birmingham 1905. Base diameter measures 4 inches (10 cm).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The inkwell displays some general wear including surface scratches, marks and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Some notable dints around the base rim. The underside is starting to come away and the replacement material lining is coming off. The hinged lids is a little loose and solder is visible around the hinges, maybe indicating a small repair?  The glass insert is damaged with a section missing. The hallmarks are clear and legible, also matching part hallmarks to lid.
