Lot 41

Lot Description

A William IV Irish silver teapot of compressed and lobed circular form, ornately chased and embossed throughout with flowers and foliage and with twin opposed scrolled cartouche, one crested and the other vacant, having ivory insulators to the handle, a fruiting vine finial to the hinged lid, and the whole raised above a footed base with conforming decoration. Hallmarked Smith & Gamble, Dublin 1831. Maximum length measures 12 inches (30.5 cm), gross weight 31.07 ozt (966.3 grams).

Export issue: Yes

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The teapot displays general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use. The decoration appears in good condition. Heavy tarnishing is visible throughout and it would benefit from a clean and polish. Small dints and bumps to some areas. The hinged lid appears in good working order and it sits flush. The ivory insulators and pins are a little loose so that the handle moves a little bit. Residues of polish to some areas. The hallmarks are located to the underside and are clear and legible, part hallmark struck to handle and lid but these are quite rubbed.
