Lot Description
A cased set of Victorian silver fruit knives and forks for twelve place settings, each with a slightly tapering mother of pear handle. Hallmarked Edward Gilbert, London 1884, one fork is matched and is struck with oriental character marks, likely Chinese export marks.

Condition Report
All the pieces display general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with their age and use. Some tarnishing to the silver. Four of the mother of pearl knife handles are badly damaged with splits and large pieces broken off. Heavier wear is visible to the tips of the knife blades, some are now a little blunt or rounded. Some of the fork tines are slightly bent, also heavier wear to tips. The hallmarks are clear and legible. The matched fork has a slightly wider ferrule, it is struck with a character mark and 'WK90'. General wear, tear and discolouration to the case and the clasp is missing/broken.
