Lot 6

Lot Description

A pair of George III silver chambersticks, the circular bases with engraved family crest and plain stem leading to a detachable nozzle, each with conical shape snuffer, oval thumb rest to the curved handle, and simple reeded borders throughout. Hallmarked Sheffield 1801, with maker's mark 'TL', probably Thomas Lamborn, nozzles not marked. Maximum height including nozzle measuring 4 1/4 inches (10.8 cm), gross weight 18.12 ozt (563.7 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both chambersticks appear in fairly good overall condition, displaying general surface scratches, contact marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with their age and use. Some small dints and bumps are visible to both. Likely repair to the rim of one of the bases. The crests are quite worn with considerable loss of detail. The motto beneath reads 'Vis Unita Fortior'. One of the snuffers also bears the remnants of a crest. The hallmarks appear rubbed and slightly distorted but are still legible. Matching hallmarks to the snuffers but the nozzles appear unmarked.
