Lot Description

A 1930's silver and enamel rectangular shaped cigarette case, with blue guilloche enamel cover, engraved with a biplane spiralling towards the corner of the case, the smoke from the tail spelling out 'Happy Landings'. Hallmarked Adie Brothers Ltd, Birmingham 1935. Length 3 1/4 inches (8.3 cm), weight 2.78 ozt (86.5 grams).

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Engine-turned reverse shows general, slight, shallow dents. Case closes securely with slight gap to one side. The enamel has significant overall deep scratches and abrasion. Slight minor area of discolouration to side of bi-plane. Three small chips to the enamel surround, showing as lighter blue. Slight discolouration to gilt finish interior. Wear to maker's mark.
