Lot 663

Lot Description

An early twentieth century silver mounted trinket or jewellery box, of rectangular form and raised on four stylised paw feet, the hinged lid with ribbon, reed and foliate border, hallmarked Charles S Green & Co Ltd., Birmingham, date letter partly distorted. Together with a similar, later example with engine turned decoration and wood lined, hallmarked W T Toghill & Co., Birmingham 1948. Length of both measures 3 3/8 inches (8.5 cm). (2).

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both boxes display general wear including surface scratches and nicks, contact marks and tarnishing commensurate with their age and use. Also some dints and bumps, especially to the earlier example. This box also displays some heavier tarnishing and the hinged lid does not close properly so that a fairly large gap remains when it is closed. The hallmarks on this box are quite worn and the date letter mainly obscured. On the later box there is a small piece of wood lining broken off and another small piece missing. Some rubbing but the hallmarks on this box are still legible.
