Lot 67

Lot Description

A pair of William IV silver candlesticks, each with a detachable nozzle above a baluster and knop stem and a shaped square base, with foliate corner decoration throughout, bases loaded. Hallmarked Henry Wilkinson & Co., Sheffield 1836. Maximum height measures 9 1/4 inches (23.5 cm).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both candlesticks display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with their age and use. Some dints and bumps. Also some small holes are visible, mainly to the areas of foliate decoration. Residues of polish to both. On one of the candlesticks, there is some damage around the rim of the socket and the bottom of the stem appears to be pushed slightly into the base. This candlestick does appear slightly shorter in overall height and has replacement baize to the underside. One of the nozzles appears a slightly looser fit. Some rubbing and partial distortion to hallmarks especially on the bases where they are slightly cut off. However they are still legible. Full matching hallmarks to both nozzles, clearly legible.
