Lot Description

A George III silver wine funnel of typical form with simple reeded rim, the detachable funnel with engraved initials MW and date 1792, also with an additional fine muslin mesh. Hallmarked Alexander Field, London 1792. Height measures 5 inches (12.7 cm), weight 2.46 ozt (76.5 grams).

The funnel displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing in keeping with the age and use. Some small dints and bumps. Some construction or seam lines visible to the funnel. The muslin mesh has a metal mount and fits inside the underside of the sieve. Full hallmarks to the sieve, partly distorted but still clearly legible. Corresponding part hallmarks to the funnel, the Duty mark, Lion passant and maker's mark, also a little distorted but still legible.
