Lot Description

A mid-Victorian Irish silver-gilt vase or vessel, the square form tapering to a circular base with banded Celtic knot decoration and cabochon gem set corners, supported above four arms extending to feet. Hallmarked Samuel Le Bas, Dublin 1864. Height measuring 5 1/4 inches (13 cm), weight 15 ozt (469 grams).

In good overall condition. The vessel displays general scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use. Areas of heavy tarnishing. wear and discolouration to the gilding. The vacant cartouche does not appear thin (gage of silver) but there is wear to the outline and surrounding decoration/gilding also a lack of gilding and therefore may have had an engraving removed. One arm has impacted into the body a little. Hallmarks are clear and legible.
