A late 19th century 18ct gold diamond and ruby brooch. The oval-shape panel, decorated with a ruby and rose-cut diamond star, to the scrolling surround with bead accents. Length 3.5cms. Weight 7.3gms.

Condition Report
Overall condition good to fair. Surface scratches and discolouration in keeping with general wear and age. Tests electronically as 18ct gold. The reverse shows evidence of repair and alteration, with a later replacement pin and safety chain. The ruby has a pinkish-red hue with medium saturation and typical clarity, showing a surface reaching inclusion just visible with the naked eye. The diamonds are bright, lively and well matched. Fine feathers can be seen under magnification. Individual size and setting prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment. Cut and setting of rose-cut diamonds prevents total carat weight estimation. The diamonds are fairly bright, and well matched. Light and dark coloured inclusions can be seen with the naked eye.
