Lot 103

Lot Description

An early twentieth century large silver goblet, with embossed floral scrolls surrounding twin-opposed vacant cartouche above lobed decoration to the lower body, having a knopped stem leading to a spreading circular foot with beaded rim. Hallmarked William Henry Sparrow, Birmingham 1912. Height measures 11 5/8 inches (29.5 cm), weight 22.12 ozt (688 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The goblet displays general wear including surface scratches and marks, some slight dints and tarnishing, all commensurate with the age and use. Heavier tarnishing/staining to the interior. Solder repairs visible around one of the cartouche and there is a very small hole in the metal. Construction marks visible to the stem, on either side of the knop. Beaded rim has lost detail and definition and now appears quite flat. No personal engravings. The hallmarks appear slightly rubbed but still legible. The maker's mark is partly worn.
