Lot Description

An American sterling silver vase by Reed & Barton, of slender baluster outline and decorated in Art Nouveau style with a border of trailing foliage around the rim and a further similar band to the foot, engraved monogram to one side, maker's mark stamp, also impressed 'sterling' and '289', height measures 11 inches (28 cm). Together with an American sterling silver christening mug of cylindrical outline with 'C' shape handle, reeded rim above a floral and foliate cartouche with central monogram, maker's mark to the underside for J. E. Caldwell & Co (Philadelphia, circa 1848 - present), also marked 'sterling', height measures 2 5/8 inches (6.7 cm). Gross weight 15.27 ozt (475 grams). (2).

The vase appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  Some slight surface dints are visible to some areas.  A couple of knocks to the foot rim and heavier wear and contact marks to the underside.  Maker's mark is rubbed but still legible.  

The mug displays general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  Heavier spots and patches of tarnishing are visible and it would benefit from a clean and polish.  Numerous small dints and bumps to the main body and several larger knocks and dents to the foot rim. Maker's marks etc to the underside are legible, also marked '7865 S-W'.
