Lot Description

A nineteenth century goblet, decorated with foliate and garland motifs enclosing oval floral panels and a further panel with presentation engraving dated 1875, beaded and knopped stem leading to a spreading foot with conforming decoration, struck marks to foot rim, likely Indian Colonial marks for Hamilton & Co (Calcutta 1811-1971). Height measures 7 3/4 inches (19.7 cm), gross weight 11.21 ozt (348.7 grams).

Inscription reads 'Presented to Colr. Sergts. May by the N.C. Officers and Men of Letter a comp HM ?? regt as a token of respect, agra 1st March 1875'

Total lot weight: No

The goblet displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Heavier tarnishing and staining to the interior. Some slight knocks to the main cup and it leans slightly. Seam mark visible to stem. Slight loss of definition to some of the beading. General nicks around the foot rim. It appears as though there are two foot rims, there has possibly been an addition to strengthen or reinforce as there are also remnants of glue visible. The marks are quite worn and partly distorted.
