IWC - a gentleman's Aquatimer wrist watch. Reference R816A, serial 1953848. Signed automatic calibre 8541B, number 2021528. Graduated green dial with baton hour markers. Calibrated rehaut. Stainless steel case fitted to an unsigned brown leather strap with stainless steel pin buckle. 40mm. <p>
<p>IWC showed the Aquatimer, the brand’s first step into the world of diving watches in 1967. The first model was a staid, black dialled watch but this was quickly succeeded by this reference 1816 a full-on product of early 1970s styling available in both ‘blue shadow’ as here and ‘red shadow’. Despite its fashion conscious looks, the movement has gravitas, being the highly regarded calibre 8541.

<li>Movement is currently functioning.
<li>Movement has scratches, marks and tarnishing commensurate with general wear visible to the naked eye.
<li>Dial appears to have marks and scratches. Dial also shows some small patches of discolouration and bubbling. Hour markers show tarnishing.
<li>Hands show noticeable marks and tarnishing
<li>Glass has scratches and marks.
<li>Case shows scratches, marks and visible dints. Case appears to have been repolished in the past.
<li>Crown is currently functioning correctly; the surface has noticeable scratches and dinting. Crown for the inner bezel appears to have been polished and is brighter than the crown controlling the hands/date.
<li>Strap shows marks and creasing.
<li>Buckle shows marks and scratches when viewed under a 4x loupe.<p>
Lot to include an incomplete stainless steel IWC bracelet. Bracelet has a spring bar missing, shows marks and scratches and is stretched.<p>
