Lot Description

An early Victorian small silver dish of shaped circular outline with pierced scroll rim, having an engraved scrollwork border surrounding a plain centre with engraved family crest. Hallmarks are partly indistinct but possibly Sheffield 1845 and tentatively attributed to Henry Wilkinson & Co, also with the Diamond Registration Mark to the reverse. Maximum diameter measures 7 3/4 inches (19.5 cm), weight 5.8 ozt (180.4 grams).

The dish displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Various knocks to the scroll rim, also some small splits in the metal. Some further shallow dints. Numerous heavier scratches, scuffs and contact marks, especially visible to the centre and base of the dish. Some of the hallmarks are quite distorted and difficult to read clearly.
