Lot Description

A continental lidded casket of oval serpentine form, having decorated borders and panels of stylised foliate motifs, the hinged lid also with a foliate finial and opening to reveal a gilded interior, the whole raised on four splay feet with leaf detail. Marked to the base 925, other mark partly worn but probably 'sterling'. Maximum length measuring 6 7/8 inches (17.5 cm), weight 13.44 ozt (418 grams).

The casket displays general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use. Some quite heavy tarnishing is visible and it would benefit from a clean and polish. Some minor dints. Gilded interior is very bright. The hinged lid appears in working order however it does not sit quite flush. Residues of polish.
