Lot 53

Lot Description

A George III silver muffin dish and cover of circular form, having an applied foliate, shell and gadroon rim to the base and an engraved armorial to the cover with the Latin motto 'Non Nobis Solum', the cover further decorated with a lobed and fluted band with scrolling foliage and a similarly decorated handle. Hallmarked Alice & George Burrows II, London 1817. Base rim diameter measures 7 1/2 inches (19 cm), weight 17.8 ozt (553.7 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The muffin dish displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Would benefit from a polish. Some surface dints and bumps and numerous heavier scratches and marks. Possible removal of crest to an area of the cover as the surface is quite uneven and dimpled. The cover does not sit quite flush to the base, although the cover does have matching part hallmarks. The hallmarks are clear and legible, the maker's marks are partly distorted. Also with crudely incised initials 'V K M'.
