Lot 190
Lot Description
OMEGA - a gentleman's Seamaster bracelet watch. Stainless steel case. Reference 196.0054. Signed quartz calibre 1310 with quick day and date set. Black dial with baton hour markers, day and date aperture to three. Fitted to a signed stainless steel bracelet with folding clasp. 39mm.
The Omega ‘Mariner’ Seamaster Quartz houses the 1310 Megaquartz movement - Omega’s first in-house developed quartz. It also featured an independent set hour hand to allow movement across time zones. To prove its ‘Mariner’ credentials it was attached to both the keel and the mast of a competitor yacht in the 1976 Observer Single-Handed Trans-Atlantic Race. Despite severe damage to the yacht, the watches survived unscathed.
