Lot Description
Masonic, a selection of regalia mainly for Surrey Lodge, to include a Grand Master's apron and collar with a silver-gilt jewel, hallmarked Birmingham 1903, in leather case, together with four further aprons and collars.
It is believed that HRH The Prince of Wales (latterly the Duke of Windsor) was Provincial Grand Master of Surrey from 1924-1936. He became a member of the Surrey Friendship and Harmony Lodge in 1924 and was installed as its Worshipful Master in 1935. He succeeded to the throne as HM King Edward VIII whilst still Worshipful Master, prior to his abdication in 1936.
This collection of Masonic regalia (Lot 506-510) is from the collection of and relates to Richard Bentinck Boyle, 9th Earl of Shannon (1924 - 2013). He was the longest serving Provincial Grand Master of Surrey being head of Surrey's Freemasons for thirty three years from 1967 to 1999.
