A mid 19th century gold and gem-set snake necklace, circa 1860. The vari-shape foil-back emerald and split pearl heart-shape panel, suspended from a similarly-set snake head, with garnet eye detail, to the tapered fancy-link chain. Length 41cms. Weight 32.4gms. With fitted case.

<li> Overall condition good. Surface scratches and minor discolouration in keeping with general wear and age. <p>
<li> Assembled from similarly aged components. <p>
<li> Some gems may be replacement. <p>
<li> Foil-back emerald well matched. <p>
<li> Foil-back emerald light green, low saturation, with good to fair clarity and typical inclusions. <p>
<li> Foil-back emerald in good condition with some minor abrasions. <p>
<li> Garnets well matched. <p>
<li> Garnets dark slightly brownish-red, well saturated, with good to fair clarity and typical inclusions. <p>
<li> Split pearls well matched for colour and lustre. <p>
<li> Split pearls slightly creamy-white, with some pink overtones and good to fair lustre, some obvious surface blisters and blemishes can be seen. <p>
<li> Split pearls in good to fair condition, some show chips and peeling. <p>
<li> Later addition safety chain broken at bolt ring clasp. <p>
