Lot Description

An early 20th century Russian gold diamond and gem-set stag beetle brooch. The garnet cabochon and rose-cut diamond abdomen, with synthetic ruby and old-cut diamond cluster thorax, ruby eyes and vari-cut diamond mandibles supporting a glass bead, flanked by realistic legs. Estimated total old-cut diamond weight 0.30ct. Various marks including the 56 zolotnik mark for St. Petersburg. Length 5.3cms. Weight 13.7gms.

<li>Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.

<li>Replacement gems including white glass bead and circular-shape synthetic ruby.

<li>Garnet slightly loose within the mount.

<li>Some feet with minor losses and small dents.

<li>Diamonds well matched.



<li>Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment.<p>

<li>Stones mostly in good condition with minor abrasions. Synthetic ruby with deep scratch to pavillion facet.<p>
