Lot 43

Lot Description

A George IV silver christening mug decorated with embossed floral and foliate panels and having a double scroll handle, hallmarked London 1824, maker's mark partly distorted, height measuring 3 7/8 inches (10 cm). Together with a small Edwardian oval dish with vertical pierced sides and beaded rim, hallmarked Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd., London 1907, and a floral embossed silver mount for a claret jug, hallmarked Sheffield 1911. Gross weight 11.97 ozt (372.5 grams). (3).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

All three pieces display general wear, surface scratches and marks and also some dints and bumps. The christening mug is quite heavily tarnished and dull in appearance. Also some tarnishing to the other pieces and all three would benefit from a clean and polish. The mug has a split through the rim near the top of the handle, knocks to foot rim and there is some flattening and loss of detail to decoration. The hinged lid of the mount does not close properly, leaving a large gap. There is also a split around the join of the thumbpiece. The hallmarks are mostly clear and legible. Rubbing to marks on the mug with the maker's mark partly distorted.
