Lot 8

Lot Description

A William IV silver mustard pot of bulbous form to a footed base with petal rim, decorated throughout with borders of flowers and leaves and with a flower finial to the hinged lid, having a foliate scroll handle and a blue glass liner of conforming shape. Hallmarked Edward Edwards II, London 1833. Maximum height to finial measures 3 3/4 inches (9.5 cm), weight 6.08 ozt (189 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The mustard pot displays general wear, surface scratches and marks commensurate with the age and use. It is quite tarnished and stained throughout and would benefit from a clean and polish. A couple of rim splits to the lid, on either side of the hinge. Possible small solder repairs. The hinged lid appears a little loose but is in working order. It does not seem to sit quite in alignment. The interior was probably once gilded but this is now faded. The glass liner appears in good overall condition, likely a replacement. The hallmarks are clear and legible, also clear part hallmarks to lid.
