Lot 315

Lot Description

A pair of George III silver berry spoons, each with embossed fruit and foliage to the gilded bowl and further foliate and scroll motifs to stem, hallmarked Peter & William Bateman, London 1814. Together with a matched pair of similar berry spoons, hallmarked London 1799, maker's marks for George Burrows (I) and John Pritchard. Weight 7.23 ozt (225 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The spoons appear in fair overall condition, all displaying some general wear, surface scratches, marks and tarnishing in keeping with the age and use. Some heavier wear around edges and tips of the bowls with the metal appearing a little thinner in places but they have generally faired well. On the Bateman pair, one bowl is gilded to both sides but the other is only gilded to the front and this is faded. The hallmarks are clear and legible, some of the maker's marks appear rubbed.
