Lot Description

A French silver nutmeg grater, the rounded rectangular form having engine-turned wavy line decoration within foliate borders, the hinged lid engraved with three semi-nude females and with push release mechanism opening to reveal a removable metal grate. Double struck with the Boar guarantee mark alongside a maker's mark. Length measures 5.7 cm by height 5 cm, gross weight 68.2 grams.

The grater appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general wear, tarnishing, surface marks and scratches. Slight loss of detail to some of the decoration but generally still good. Hinge and clasp appear in good working order. Considerable rust and staining to the grate.
