A mid 19th century gold, enamel and gem-set snake necklace. The scrolling foliate motif and turquoise enamel snake head and tail with split pearl crest and garnet eyes, suspending a similarly-designed heart locket, to the graduated snake-link chain. Personal engraving dated 1854. Length 40cms. Weight 35.5gms.

<li>Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.
<li>Possibly re-enamelled, replacement gems.
<li>Enamel with small chip towards end of the neck, small area of discolouration.
<li>Split pearls well matched.<p>
<li>Stones in good condition with minor abrasions.<p>
<li>Garnets presumed foil back.
<li>Engraving reads 'John Hosie to his Mother 1854'.
